2555lmt not routing

I purchased a 2555LMT because i was told it would auto route. I have spoken to two people on the phone at Garmin. If I put in location A,B,C,D,E and the it calculates, it should give me the stop near me and then second close and so on. It routes me the same order that I put in the locations A,B,C,D,E instead of B,E,C,A,D or what ever it should be for the closest stops in distance order. This is my last effort on figuring out the problem. I went under Apps - Trip Planner- added stops - hit next button- it calculated- asked for stating point- results same route in order that i entered locations.
  • It actually does auto route: from the location where you are to location A, then to location B etc.; just in the order you entered them.
I guess you have the wrong idea of what auto routing means: AFAIK no Garmin device can order a random set of locations so that you get the optimal (shortest) route between them, and I don't know of another brand that does this.
  • Mostly that's right but some nuvis will do route optimization ... My 1490 will do
  • Does the 1490 reorder the via points in a route automatically? Is there a specific setting for that?
  • No you need to select the route then edit then optimise route.
  • Well, maybe the 2555 has that option too...

Just to be clear, I told them 5 randoms starts and it needed to put routes in order closet to farthest. I was told it would do this. I explained what i did and what I needed. I was told what to buy. Called that afternoon and spoke to support and told them what i needed to do, I was told it would route close to far. The next day I spoke to another support person and asked them in a different way than day before and was told it would arrange stops in order near to far. There is no missunderstanding of what i told them, I believe now they do not know what they are talking about. I can put in one stop at a time on a cheap used garmin to accomplish what i thought and was told $179 dollar lie would do.

I told support what i needed, NO mistake on my part, ?I WAS LIED TO, or they are stupid.
  • Well before you convince yourself of that I suspect there is an option on your nuvi to optimise trips the way you want. Have you had a good read of the manual?

    page 45 of manual

Select Optimize Order to arrange the
stops on your trip in the most-efficient
    order.

it does not do this, I spoke to support who told me step by step, and it did not do it. I am frustrated.
  • If it doesn't maybe they were in the best order to start with. Garmin specs for that model state that it will optimise routes. If yours doesn't then either you're doing something wrong or your GPS is faulty. Either way no one is lying to you.
