Edit TCX file

I forgot to turn off my FR70 heart rate monitor the other day after a sports game and would like to edit the file to reflect the correct heart rate info. I've read about editing the TCX files, so I exported it and opened it in Notepad. I found the spot I want it to end, removed everything between there and </track>, and uploaded it to Garmin Connect.

I noticed in the uploaded file there seems to be a large gap in data though that was not there in the original. I checked the unedited TCX file, and it seems to skip about 10 minutes of time (from 01:40:49 to 01:50:19). I'm not sure why this is, as in the original graph there's clearly data in the missing time!

I've attached screenshots of the original graph and uploaded graph, and the original TCX file. I also tried it with a GPX file, but all that seems to contain is the event info (date, details entered on website, etc) but none of the actual data that makes up the graph. Anyone have any idea why this is happening, or how I can get an actual full file to edit?

The tcx file you posted has 10 minutes of data missing in it starting about 37 minutes into the activity.
    From time 01:40:49 to 01:50:19.
That is why there is a straight line on the graph shown in the "edited.jpg".
That tcx file has been edited. It is not the original tcx file that produced the "original.jpg".
  • I know there's missing data, that's the source of the problem. The TCX file has NOT been edited. I have re-downloaded it multiple times, each time it comes out the same, missing 10 minutes of data. I even re-uploaded the activity to Garmin Connect and exported it, it is still missing 10 minutes of data.

Am going to look for some other software!

I know there's missing data, that's the source of the problem. The TCX file has NOT been edited. I even re-uploaded the activity to Garmin Connect and exported it, it is still missing 10 minutes of data.

I had the same problem when I edited my file because I wanted to delete some data.

These statements seem to be in conflict. If you downloaded the TCX file from an otherwise correct activity, modified it, and then uploaded the modified version, I think you could safely expect that an attempt to download a TCX from that modified activity would result in a TCX that has the same problem. If you want to get a TCX that isn't modified, you'd have to delete the activity from Garmin Connect and then re-upload the original file and start over again (make a backup of your TCX file before you start messing with it).
