transferring phonebook (contacts) from Samsung Galaxy SII ?

HI,
Got a new nuvi 3490 for christmas, but I am not able to transfer contacts from my Samsung Galaxy SII to the phonebook on the device.
It was supposed to go automatically, but nothing happens. I can receive calls on the nuvi, but not make outgoing calls without anything in the phinebook.

Anyone who has a good solution ?

  • Not sure how long you've left it, but it can take a while for the phonebook to transfer across.

I'm not sure what Bluetooth protocol the nuvi 3490 uses to read phonebook entries but it's possible the Samsung Galaxy SII doesn't support it.

I know my vehicle, which has bluetooth, won't read my phones phonebook but my 1490T will. That said I can make/receive calls via my vehicles hands-free feature. I just had to manually enter phonebook entries in it.
  • According to Garmin's compatability page various versions of the SII should work ... whether it will or not is another matter.

    To Sussamb
I waited for 2-3 hours. Can it take any longer ?

I've seen it take a minute or two on my 1490T. Unless you have a zillion phonebook entries I'd say 2-3 hours means its not working.

Here is the answer from support :

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

Unfortunately your mobile phone isn?t compatible with that device. It may work sometimes but was we haven?t tested it yet we can?t guarantee that it will be fully compatible.

    disappointing

Well as I alluded to there are often Bluetooth incompatibilities with hands-free/phonebook stuff. Garmin is not the only one.

If you care about the technicalities I've seen two methods by which Bluetooth devices exchange phone book entries.

    PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile)

    OBEX

I don't know which your devices use. Sometimes the supported protocols are specified in manuals.

Got a 3590 LMT for Xmas, and tried to connect it to my phone (samsung b2100 solid) with Bluetooth.
Sometimes, the 3590 never loads the phonebook, and i can make and receive calls ok, but of course without the help of the contact names which is a pain.
Sometimes, it loads the phonebook, but then causes the 3590 so switch off either instantly or a few minutes later.
I have tried different BT settings on the phone, but the problem stays the same, and worst of all is not consistent.

Transferring phonebook (contacts) from Samsung Galaxy SII to another device is not that easy, we need to use a google account or coolmuster mobile transfer program. With their helps, we can directly transfer contacts between mobile phones.
