Garmin Connect - Device Not Found

Former Member

Hi. My Forerunner 205 is no longer recognised by Garmin Connect (or the Garmin Training Centre come to that).
Any attempts to upload my activities give a 'No devices found' error.

I've tried updating the USB drivers, webupdater and the communicator plug-in to no effect.
The exact same thing thing happens if I try connecting my husbands Garmin 410.
All was fine until a month ago. I have no clue what has changed.

Both Forerunners are recognised by my husband's laptop - so it's my PC set-up rather than the devices or the cables.
Very frustrating. Any suggestions very welcome.
  • I am also having this problem with the forerunner 305. If anyone has any news, please post it here. THANK YOU!!!!

Ditto - I am having the same problem with 305 ever since the New Year!
Did the same as Carol.Shaw, but to no avail.
I also cleaned out the contacts with an eraser and alcohol - still no success....so I had my own alcohol instead - a nice glass of red wine helps deal with this frustration a little better. :)

I also have the same problem. Forerunner 305 connects ok on the laptop, but no longer recognised by myGarmin or Training Centre. Any ideas yet from Garmin?

Well, I spent 1.5 hrs on the phone with Garmin support the other day. I gave access to connect to my laptop remotely, they tried everything to find the cause, but couldn't find the exact reason why the Garmin Connect software is no longer allowed to communicate with my 305. It's not a hardware issue, granted that the laptop recognizes the watch properly - all drivers and Connect software is up to date...They are convinced that something got updated on my laptop in the new year that is now preventing the communication from happening.
They recommended I try from another home PC. So I dusted off my old laptop and installed the Garmin s/w and driver...and it actually worked fine.
In sum, I still have no idea how to make it work on my current laptop...but at least I have a workaround.
    Good luck!

I have the Edge 705 and had the same problems. I got Garmin Connect, etc. to find my device after I:
    - Uninstalled all Garmin programs from Control Panel - Programs and Features
    - Deleted all files and folders on my PC that contained the word garmin (windows search), I did not delete any folders with course, history, etc.
    - Launched regedit.exe and deleted all registry entries that had garmin in it. (DO NOT do this unless you are familiar with editing the registry) I did leave entries for other programs like training peaks
    - Rebooted my PC
    - Launched browser - went to Garmin Connect - logged in - Garmin Connect detected that plugin was not installed - installed plug in
----- Everything works fine now ------

Maybe someone from Garmin will read this, discover exactly what needs to be removed and create a program that will do exactly that.

I just encountered the problem this morning with my Forerunner 305. I followed the same steps as CAPTAWOL except I did not delete registry entries and that worked for me as well.

Device not Recognized message for forerunner 305

I figured out the issue why the Garmin driver will not work with Windows 7 . To fix this if you have tried installing first. Go to Control Panel chose "Uninstall Programs" and uninstall all the garmin programs there will probably the communicator, Training Center and Garmin USB Drivers.

Go to Regedit and remove the Garmin entries.

Unplug you Garmin from the Computer. Reboot the computer.

Now go to the Garmin Site to download the Training Center, chose Garmin Training Center Legacy 3.5.3. Do not choose the latest version.

Follow instructions, when it asks you to turn your garmin and plug the usb cable do so at that time, do not do it earlier or later. Wait patiently whilst it loads the drivers. Do not rush through this.

Press next when it is done and then Done.

IT will start Training Center and you should see all your rides and be able to communicate with the GPS. IT WILL COME WITH THE MESSAGE THAT THE LATEST VERSION 4.6.5 is available as an update. DO NOT SELECT THIS, SKIP it. This loads the new device driver and that does not work well.

The device driver version that works is 2.3.0.0 that Training Center Legacy loads.

You can now go to Garmin Center Website and try to upload your trails, it will tell you that you need to upload the Garmin Communicator, go ahead and do that.

Once you upload the Garmin Communicator you should be able to go to Garmin Connect. Good Luck.

    Cheers

I have done all of the above.

One thing, I had to manually search for, and install, the drivers, it was not an automatic process.

I restarted my computer, and still NOTHING. Does not recognize my device.

    I have a Forerunner 305 as well.

    VERY FRUSTRATING.
  • I had this on my Edge 500, a couple of things worked for me.

    1. switch to another USB port.
    2. If running windows 8, use the desktop browsers. and not the 'app' browser.
