Zumo 660 - exporting routes

I've done several searches and cannot find this topic being discussed although I’m sure I’m not the only one. I recently purchased a new motorcycle with the Zumo Road Tech 660 installed. I took a short ride the other day and reviewed the trip log on the Zumo. I then converted it to a route and displayed it on the Zumo. It looks accurate. When I import the route to any program, it only displays about 1/10th of the route. Just wondering if anyone has an explanation for this, known bug, something I’m not understanding, etc. Thanks for any response. Mark

Have you tried Garmin BaseCamp or MapSource?
And when you view the route, does it show up as a straight line from start to end?

My MapSource (City Select) program is several years old and I think designed to work with my GPS V. Viewing the route in Google Maps or Google Earth the route appears to be a normal looking straight line. When you click on the route in Google Maps the view changes showing the trip log points.
  • Didn't you get a DVD with newer software with your 660?
Anyway, you can download Garmin BaseCamp for free; BaseCamp can even use the map in your zumo (as long as it is connected to your PC)

The zumo created a route without viapoints from the track; only MapSource and BaseCamp (and the zumo ofcourse) can handle such a route properly.

OK, good information. I wasn't aware of BaseCamp. This in my 5th Garmin device but it's been a while since I've worked with any of the available mapping software. I downloaded BaseCamp and the route as well as everything else on the Zumo 660 downloads to it just fine. Thanks for the info. I'll look for a disk that may have came with my Zumo. Can you tell me if Basecamp allows for dragging and re-routing? Can't seem to find that function. Thanks
  • Niot this route. As soon as you change something BaseCamp will recalculate; since this route has only two via points (start and finish) it will end up in a completely different route.
It would be a better idea to load the trip log into BaseCamp and draw a new route along it.

Sorry, I didn't mean can you drag and re-route a route after pulling it in from the Zumo to BaseCamp. I mean when creating a new route using BaseCamp, is there a way to drag the route so that it follows the roads you prefer.
  • Yes, use the insert tool to add points to make it go the way you want.

Thanks for all the help. I'm getting the hang of it. Just one more question, with my Zumo connected to BaseCamp I see two options for a map to use. (3 if you count the Global Map) Not sure what the difference is or which one I should use? City Navigator North America NT 2013.3 OR CN North America NT 2013.30 3D US & Canada? I'm guessing but does the latter just include Canada??? Haven't been able to determine what's different about the two?

BaseCamp will show the (preloaded) maps on your device when it is plugged in. If you've also loaded the maps to your PC then you'll see both. They may or may not be identical according to what was loaded on your device. For example City Navigator North America NT includes Canada, Alaska etc. However if, because of space issues, only the "Lower 49 States" was loaded on your device that wouldn't have maps of Canada and Alaska.

If you're not sure which maps are your device and which are on your PC unplug your unit.

With the Zumo unplugged I only see the Global Map listed. I haven't loaded any maps on my computer. So the two others listed are on the Zumo?
