Off-line Data Access

I have heard that Garmin will no longer maintain or support Garmin Training Center. This is unfortunate. I request that you reconsider.

Please provide off-line data access. There are many people who don't have constant web access in order to use Garmin Connect. For example, mountain running or biking, or a cross-country cycling event. Or a team traveling home from an event in a bus. Just as your sales materials indicate, Garmin users love to be found off the beaten path!

Even for those of us who usually do have web access, we do not want to depend on web access for viewing personal data. There really needs to be an off-line solution.

Thank you.

    Thanks for your response.

I've actually discussed this with Garmin representatives (including supervisors) many times over the past couple of years. But if I'm the only one, nothing will happen. In that couple of years, Garmin has decided to discontinue support of Garmin Training Center. Garmin is convinced for some reason that we don't need local access to our personal data. I suppose they haven't heard from enough of us. The more people that voice their disagreement, the more likely Garmin will listen.

Garmin representatives have repeatedly asked me to post this request at http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas. I have of course done this. Passing this along for Garmin, I invite everyone who feels the same to do the same, so that they will get a better idea for the demand.

Internet access to personal data is definitely a convenience and a good thing, but it cannot replace my having access and control over my personal data even without connectivity to Garmin's servers. I love Garmin and its excellent products, but my personal data belongs to me. I want access to it whenever I need it.
  • Glad you posted that link. I hope others will try it too. However, I went there and the "accept agreement and continue" button didn't work. I tried to get there by coming from the main site, but same result. I sent a web-site issue to them. Hopefully they'll get it fixed.

I was using Safari on a MacBook with snow leopard. Did you successfully use this link? if so, what browser/os combo? I'll try it again later today when I get to my PC.

edit...... got to my PC with FireFox / WinXP pro. Was able to click the link and send them my request to keep a method such as Training Center for us to review activities when internet connection is not available.

You could try some other software instead. eg Garmin BaseCamp, or SportTracks (Windows) or Ascent (Mac) or TurtleSport etc.
These can do much of what Training Center does, and work offline.
  • I always assumed from the advertising Garmin did for BaseCamp, that it was only for creating routes, paths and highway directions. I guess I never got into the details enough to see that it allows you to view actual activities. I just downloaded it and initially it seems to give me the things I'm interested in. Now I see why there's a big sub-forum devoted to it.

Too bad it doesn't do marine charts, I guess I still have to use Garmin MapSource for that.
