forerunner 305, Training Center

I use a Forerunner 305, but my question goes mostly to TrainingCenter.

From time to time, I've forgotten to press the "timer off" button at the end of a workout, such that my Forerunner 305 just sits there running, and tearing my record keeping to shreds, but driving my averages waaaaaaay down.

I could cure that if I could edit the file. That is, I could simply cut the length of the record of the workout to the actual length of the workout.

I have TC, Mapsource, Basecamp. Any way to do it?

Yes but not with TC or MapSource or BaseCamp.
The FR305 records tcx files. MapSource will open tcx and you can edit the track but you can only save the new track as a gpx or gdb and you lose all fitness data.
TC will only import tcx or fit files.
IMHO the best program for editing tcx or fit files is the Fit File Repair Tool but it is not free. http://fitfilerepairtool.info/download/
It will keep all your fitness data and laps and creates a new file that will load into TC and GTC.

Thanks Don, just what I was looking for. The $49 price causes a bit of a pause, but I think I'll go forward with it. Was it reasonably straightforward to install?

I had no trouble and also had to install the free Access2010 Runtime program because I only had an old Access2003 version. Be sure to uninstall your old Access version before installing the newer free one that is listed on the FFRT website.

Before I edit a track I open it in MapSource and look at the plot and pick the time from the "Properties" box that I want to stop the track and write it down. Then I open the track in the FFRT and go to that timestamp on the list and start deleting. There are deleting options like "delete from here" which tells the software to start where you click and select everything else to the end. There are lots of cool options in the "paid" version.
