GPSmap 60CSx cannot acquire satellites

I've owned this unit for several years without any serious problems. Tried shutting down, restarting, pulling out batteries, removing memory card, ran updater many times.

Software Version 4.00. GPS SW Version 0.00s (that doesn't look right).

Worked in the morning on the way out, hasn't acquired satellites for two days now.

    Try this: http://brilliantcorners.org/2007/04/fixing-a-dead-garmin-gpsmap-60csx

    Thanks for the link

What I ended up doing was going here: http://www.gawisp.com/perry/chipset_firmware/Type_G/

I ran several of these before one finally updated the chipset to an older SW version which caused the unit to see the satellites. I then used the Web Updater to reinstall the latest version.

I'm still a little unnerved because I don't know what caused the initial failure, and the effort required to fix it could be hard to duplicate with limited resources on a trip.

    Thank you!

    So here's Garmin's response:

    Dear XXX XXXXXXXX,
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Unfortuneatly, if the GPS Chipset will not load in the device, then the device would need to be exchanged.
. I will be happy to setup a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) for the repair; however I will need additional information to be able to do so. Please respond to this e-mail with the following:

    -Shipping Address
-Time to contact for payment information

The flat rate of repair for the Garmin out of warranty is $110.00 plus tax if applicable. All Garmin products are warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. If you are within that one year period, please attach the proof of purchase to this email. I will then email you the address and a RMA number to have the unit shipped back to Garmin for the repair or exchange. From the time that we receive the unit, we should have it back to you within 10-14 business days.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I'm glad it worked for you!

I'm running a Mac and I also have started using this other app when doing mass uploads to my SD card. The utility that works through the Garmin unit doesn't work well and this solves some other problems.

    Thai software

I have a similar problem with my GPSmapCSx I have had it for about 4 years and often lose the ability to acquire satellites. Unfortunately my unit is a Thai version with Thai software version 2.80 and, apparently has no update and will not accept any other software updates. When I lose satellites I re-load GPSReceiverSoftware300 from GPSChipsetTypeG_300 and all is ok until, randomly, I try to switch on and just get the acquiring screen with no satellites.
I have taken my unit back to Garmin (ESRI Thailand) but have never been able to replicate the problem while there, and they will not change the software.
The first 2 or 3 times it happened my unit was under warranty but I couldn't get to Garmin or send it to them, I work and travel extensively worldwide and rely on my Garmin tremendously so can't really do without it!
I feel all I need is to get rid of the Thai software version and load another, perhaps from the website quoted in this thread but I cannot do that as my Garmin always so 'No Update Available for your Product'.
Any help and assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

If you're updating your Garmin with a Macintosh you can try the solution that helped me, beyond that I'm way over my head talking about Thai software. Sorry.

I am having the same "no satellite acquisition" problem but I don't know how to use the fix you posted. I have a Mac with 10.10.3. I am in the middle of a trip and could really use the help. Thanks, Bob

The secret it to find the install here that will work:

    http://www.gawisp.com/perry/chipset_firmware/Type_G/

    Then you update from there.
