Golfing - and garmin connect

Hi,

I have an Edge 500 which I use for cycling and as I only run the odd time. I have also used it afew times on the golf course just to keep trak of my movements etc.

With Christmas approaching, I have been thinking of asking Santa for a proper Golf GPS device, so as an existing Garmin user, was thinking why change a good thing.

So the approach G6 looks the business (G5 don't look to shabby either). If I got one of these, can I upload my "workout" (well I call it a workout carrying a set of heavy steel shafted clubs around on my back for 4 1/2 hours:) ) to Garmin connect to link in with all my other stuff to keep everything in the same place?
  • Bump.. Would really appreciate some help here please people? Is there nobody from Garmin on these forums that would understand what I'm asking?
  • For anyone interested I got the Approach G6. There is a lot of great things about it and lots of really petty annoying things. I will do a complete review on it over a period of time, but for now I'm just going to point a few things out. In summary, I'm sure there is better products out there so don't be to quick to buy one of these.

My main bugbear so far is that it does not autopower off. Means, that if I dont turn it off after my round, there will be no charge at all left for the next game. The Edge 500 that I have, auto powers off after a period of non use so the Approach G6 should really have the ability to do the same. It would probably last 3 or even 4 rounds with a full charge but I am getting 1. I am going to invest in a car charger so that I will leave it in the car between rounds. I took it in the house a few times to charge it up and then forgot to bring it golfing!!

Other thing is soooo simple I really can't understand why Garmin have not done this. It does not connect to Garmin connect. You cannot upload your activity anywhere in fact, not even to your local machine. You can plug it into a computer alright and read files directly from the Approach G6 but that's it.

As a device for giving you yardage information, it seems to be pretty accurate. Couple of times it was way off the mark (50 or 60 yards) but I am going to put that down to GPS satellites cloud cover or something, because most of the time (98%) I would say that it has been very accurate.

So for those of you who like to analyse your rounds on a big screen afterwards, forget about the Garmin Approach G6.

For such an expensive unit, I am very dissapointed in it.

I would expect that at the very least it connects to Garminns own Connect site to keep track of all your activities together. All the information is there in the unit from your round, so it is just a question of interfacing it. Not rocket science one would think. Garmin Connect even offers Golf as an activity. Eye off the ball here Garmin.

The fact that you can't even upload it anywhere is quite annoying also. Whats the point in having stats, if you can't analyse them.
