550t and USB after an accidental dunking

Setup: Oregon 550t

After taking a dunking when I inadvertently fell into a stream, my 550t has quit working as expected when plugged into PC by usb cable. Instead of showing up in basecamp and a storage device in windows explorer, it just powers up.

To be more precise, it appears to come on as a storage device for something like 40-60 seconds but then powers up as if I turned it on with the button.

Far as I know it has always been set to interface=Garmin-Serial, but just to make sure I tried setting it to 'Garmin-Spanner' but got similar results with a slight difference. First it came up with a dialog asking if I wanted to go to Mass Storage or not, after choosing 'yes' it went to the mass storage display of a device connected to a computer, but doesn't show up in windows explorer and after something like 40 seconds to a minute, it powers on as if I turned it on with the button.

An suggestions to improve the situation?
