Bought a Nuvi 250W in 2008 and it recently died on me. Garmin said for £36 (and assuming the problem was terminal - which it was) they would send me another 250W which had recently been newly overhauled. Sounded like a good idea as it meant I could keep my maps package. Problem was the 250W was a slightly newer version than my old one (in itself not a problem) however on receipt, I could not charge it such that the battery would hold any charge (device worked fine otherwise). Tried to charge via AC adapter, USB on PC and in-car charger. Both the AC adapter and in-car led to the device saying "battery charging" but after a no. of hours via each method, upon disconnection, the device just switched off as if it did not have a battery. On thinking Garmin had sent me a faulty device, they sent me a second replacement and now, a third one! I have had identical issues with each one. They cannot tell me why the device apparently will not hold a charge, and I am sure (now) that they have been send me different replacements (ie not the same one back!). If anyone has any bright ideas as to why the device will not apparently hold a charge, I would welcome some guidance. Many thanks.
My first thought, given that it happens on numerous devices, is a faulty cable ... but unless all your cables (USB, AC and car) are faulty that's not it. You may find though that the 205s sent by Garmin may have been around a while, so battery could be VERY flat. You might try plugging into AC charger and leaving it overnight to see if that does it.
Thanks for the quick response. I am sure the leads are OK as the USB is currently charging my Edge800 and the in-car as been working fine as well. I guess the battery must have been very flat but I have trried overnight charges and Garmin keep asserting that the devices are thoroughly checked before dispatch. This infers that they are happy with the battery so something somewhere doesn't quite stack up. I am waiting for them to send me a UPS label for it to go back again but if I can get it sorted before it goes back again and the seemingly endless cycle continues, then that would be preferable. Thanks again
