Shoe Tracking - Garmin Connect

Need I say more, it´s been years since folks first brought this up as a much needed feature for Garmin Connect. I am still using another website in addition to Garmin Connect JUST to track my shoes´ mileage. Come on, it shouldn´t be that complicated to add this type of feature. You already have the best customer service out there. It would be great if you could also make sure that you are the ones providing the best software for using your own products. Thanks.

I decided to send Garmin Support an e-mail on this feature. Here is their response: (pretty non-committal and scripted IMO)

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I'd be happy to assist. I'm sorry that you are having issues with Garmin Connect. Unfortunately Garmin Connect does not have a shoe tracker feature on it. This may be a feature that is added on later on down the road but not available at this time. We do strongly encourage our customers to go to: www.garmin.com/ideas to submit ideas and suggestions to Garmin for review.

Please let us know if we could further assist you. Thank You for being a Garmin Customer and I hope you have a great day."

And my follow up response: (I know I'm poking the bear a bit here, but I think they need to be poked just little, don't you?)
Hi and thanks for your response. Actually, I have submitted this feature request many times using the feedback link in Garmin Connect.

In fact there is a 15 page thread in the Feature Request section of the Garmin Connect forum that was started in 2012. That's 15 pages of users asking Garmin to deliver this feature.

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?31267-Shoe-Tracking-Garmin-Connect

Why does Garmin not see this feature as valuable when so many users want it? Why is Garmin not interested in providing such a simple feature that competitor sites have had for years? Why is Garmin ignoring such a large user request?

Just curious. And really, please check the forum link above. I think Garmin owes users an honest explanation as to why this hasn't been addressed.
  • Why not just use strava? My garmin 910xt is the best in terms of hardware, strava - software. Let everybody do what they can do best. Strava have shoe tracking feature and segments as well.

But why would someone want to pay for a premium membership to get what Garmin Connect offers for free? Well you do have to purchase a $100 to $600 device to use it so I guess it's not free in that sense.
  • It's a very helpful tool. please garmin

With Strava it's not possible to add shoes with a 'start milage', not very handy.

Good hardware is nothing without good software, so please Garmin transform GC into the potential brilliant tool it can be.

Is this really that common for you? I usually start tracking in new pairs but to each their own. Either way, you could always name the pair in Strava with the starting mileage and then let Strava start counting from there, eg, 'Brooks Trance 124miles'. That actually might even be better since you would know your mileage before and after tracking.

Good luck though...doing this in Strava is completely painless and I got tired of waiting for Garmin.

    +1+1+1
  • I just switched from Nike+ to Garmin. Like the watch, but disappointing that I am not longer able to track shoe usage….pretty basic stuff.

completely agree. Why a running site doesn't track shoe mileage is beyond sensibility. Get on it Garmin.
