Shoe Tracking - Garmin Connect

Need I say more, it´s been years since folks first brought this up as a much needed feature for Garmin Connect. I am still using another website in addition to Garmin Connect JUST to track my shoes´ mileage. Come on, it shouldn´t be that complicated to add this type of feature. You already have the best customer service out there. It would be great if you could also make sure that you are the ones providing the best software for using your own products. Thanks.

This is a needed feature - it's one of the reasons I'm tracking both here and in RunningAhead.com

Why is this so hard to add? I'm getting tired of using multiple sites. Please add this feature.

This should be added to your website. Simple functionality to add N amount of shoes and then once the run has been saved to Garmin Connect the user can choose which shoes were used. Reports then could have an additional filter showing the shoes that have been registered.

This would make it very easy to track mileage using a single solution!!!
  • I really hope they are listening to us! Also count me on the quest to have that feature.

I saw they have a new feature that automatically finds your best 5K trip or 10K trip etc... thats good and I saw that it works! BUT, I have sort of "disabled" it, because I always categorise my runningactivities to other than running. Why is that? Because I categorise running trips from lets say trips that I have run in my Asics Gel-Kayano 19 into Activity Type "Other" and "Horseback Riding".... funny right ;-) The same thing I do for my trips that I run in my Brooks Trance 12, except that it is lets say Activity Type "Swimming" and "Open Water Swimming". So, you might think what I will tell with that, right? Ok, when I do this, I actually make it possible to track shoe mileage directly in Garmin Connect! And I can see a progress bar showing percent completed and how many KM run so far. The feature I am talking about here is the Goal feature. I simply make a goal for each pair of my shoes. I name the goal the name of my shoes e.g. "Brooks" (or you could be more precise "Brooks Trance 12"). Set the goal to be 900 KM (end of life) and make it annual (the longest time choice ahead). Last thing but important - set the goal with an activity type you normally not do. It could be "Other" and "Wind/Kite Surfing". Bingo! Just pick a trip you made with the Brooks shoes --> Quick Edit --> categorise it to these strange acttivities made with running shoes :-). The best place to look at the progress and work with the trips I think, is in the calendar view. You here have overall glance of your mileage tracking together with all your activities. When looking at your calendar, you will see that your running trips are now coloured according to your "activity". If you like me have 2-4 pair of running shoes (some old and some new), you have a colour for each shoe (because I chose four different "Activity Type"s) Yes, I am actually not a "runner" ;0) If you in the calendar choose colours that actually match the colour on your shoe, it might be very "realistic":-) I like to tear my shoes evenly, and thats easy this way.

But, I must say, that it might work for now for me (probably also for other runners if they are inspired), but I would definitely, of course, use the real shoe mileage tracking feature, if Garmin takes this quest serious. One thing I miss, is to distinguish between trail running, treadmill running and so on. And also the new feature to constantly monitor for PR in 5K, 10K etc. Because I am not a runner :-)

Could we get a "pip" from Garmin?

    +1!!!!
This is the one feature I feel is missing. I'm a convert from the Nike+ GPS world, it was one of their main features...

I love my 610. I love Garmin connect (despite some annoying idiosyncracies). But I NEED to track the miles on my shoes. PLEASE!
  • Does anyone know if it's possible to develop an app of some sort using the Garmin Connect API to report on shoe mileage? Maybe give the app a shoe name that you want to search and a time frame and it reports back the mileage? So if I tag an activity with text like KINVARA4 it would add up all the miles on activities with KINVARA4 in the name between start and end date? Any smart developers feel like writing some code? :)
