310XT - ""Last transfer with device Forerunner 310XT on 9/30/2012 8:55:55 PM failed."

Guys,

I have a 310 that will not transfer one of the activities I just did. I've done a search but couldn't find any solutions.

Quick background. Saturday I went on a bike ride. When I powered the watch on it would get stuck at the small text Garmin startup screen. After a half dozen or more mode/lap resets it finally got through. I finished my ride and reset the activity. Sunday I did another bike ride and the watch started up no problem and I can even see it in my activity history (although when I go to get more details in the "View More" screen it shows the same summary screen but briefly shows 0's in all the fields.

When I went to upload it today it only uploaded my Saturday activity. It wouldn't upload Sunday's activity. Instead it tries to download, fails and shows this message: "Last transfer with device Forerunner 310XT on 9/30/2012 8:55:55 PM failed." In another minute or so it tries the upload again and gives me the same message (new date stamp). I've tried updating the software but that didn't solve it. I tried just creating a 10 second workout to see if that would do it but that didn't help either. It wouldn't upload those either. I tried Stava too and it doesn't see the activity either. Anyone had this problem before? I had a long activity (50 miles) and can see it on the history on the watch so I know it's there.

Garmin support tells me to do a master reset, which would erase this activity, so I thought I would ask here before losing it for sure

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Opening up Ant Agent, deleting device and reconfiguring watch on startup worked for me without losing any data.

I have the same problem with garmin 310xt. I transfer every day the new history training with the first time but the next is the message with failed. Next step when i open the garmin center and i have to transfer my new workout its not working. I must to close the watch and reopen the software to transfer the workouts.
Please do something the garmin team support about it.

    1. I reinstalled everything software from begin (Garmin Center and ant Agent) no succeed
    2. I delete from ant Agent the device and installed again. No succeed
    3. I did a hard reset (I lost everything) and i setup the watch from begin. No succeed

i followed your instructions and lost all my data!, thanks for nothing..

    To perform the master reset:

    1. Power off Forerunner
    2. Hold Lap/Reset and Power
    3. Release Power when Garmin logo appears
    4. Press and hold Mode and Enter
    5. Wait 3 seconds
    6. Release Lap/Reset
    7. Wait 5 seconds
    8. Release Mode and Enter

This was also the only procedure that made my custom run settings disappear.

You need to TOTALLY re-install Ant Agent

For anyone experiencing problems recently with the 310XT not transferring data from the watch to the MAC or PC, you need to TOTALLY, and I mean TOTALLY, re-install ANY Agent, remove your stick and then Re-install ANT Agent. I was fighting with this for a while now and this WORKED! Follow the instructions here:

    iqc.garmin.com/.../request.do

If this link doesn't work for any reason, Google "How do I uninstall ANT Agent". This info was only updated March 7, 2013 at the Garmin Knowledge Base.

When done, go the the Garmin website and grab the latest ANT Agent software to re-install. There are different links for PC vs. MAC OS X

I have been playing with the watch for a while now and within 1 minute of finishing an activity, it seems to auto-upload now as it should ... yippee!:D

I tried uninstalling and re-installing Ant agent. Did not help. I noticed on the forerunner that in my history, every run was made on "sunday", so you might want to check that??. Everything was working fine until I had an issue on March 10 when I started the garmin after daylight savings time (if that had anything to do with it) It would not start and I had to shut off and turn on several times, soft reset, etc...could not get it to start. About a mile into the run it started and works but when reviewing history I noticed every run said sunday, so it appears I corrupted all my data.

I finally went in and deleted all activities (not a hard reset), then uninstalled and reinstalled ant agent, also had to make sure they paired, since the watch was set to "do not pair".

Everything is working good now. The history is gone from my watch but its on "garmin connect" so I really didnt lose anything except for a couple days that wouldn't upload

I recently had the same problem with downloading my runs to GC. After reading this thread, I looked at all my previous run data and it all seemed normal. However, the problem began when I changed the timezone on my 310. It changed the dates and times of all my previous runs/rides. This may have been due to the fact that I had one run that done in a different time zone which had not yet been sent to GC. I deleted my history and everything worked fine.
  • Just had the same problem. As mentioned previously the issue was a corrupt file. I could not delete this file, either by deleting individual files or by trying to delete all files. The corrupt file just kept reappearing. In the end I did a hard reset, I lost a couple of activities but everything working fine again.
I manually added activities to Garmin connect prior to hard reset.

Thanks to all for your questions and answers around this frustrating problem. New user here and I didn't plug in the ANT until 2 days ago. It uploaded my history just fine. But yesterday it failed and today it failed too, of course. Thanks to all who suggested to look for an odd looking activity with a bunch of 00s on the "More" page. I found one, and deleted it, after manually entering the data on Garmin Connect. I restarted the ANT and the upload worked. So now I am off to figure out how did I end up with the 00s? I will go read more. My suspicion is in the sequence I am using. I hope this helps someone.
  • Sequence:

    Start activity.
    Stop activity.
Press and hold Lap/Reset until the timer stops.
    Turn device off
Connect device to charging clip in range of computer (Or leave on and not in charging clip)

Provided USB stick is in, ANT Agent is on and connection to internet is good, upload will go ahead.

To avoid problems, elect to 'Delete after upload' in the ANT Agent preferences.

Be advised too that some 310s have a problem retaining data when switched off. It was never fixed by Garmin and led to activities having a datestamp around 1997 and therefore being 'lost'. Solution is to contact Garmin for a replacement or allow plenty of time for satellites to be located and time corrected. Keep a current time field handy and don't start an activity until that shows current time.
