310XT - ""Last transfer with device Forerunner 310XT on 9/30/2012 8:55:55 PM failed."

Guys,

I have a 310 that will not transfer one of the activities I just did. I've done a search but couldn't find any solutions.

Quick background. Saturday I went on a bike ride. When I powered the watch on it would get stuck at the small text Garmin startup screen. After a half dozen or more mode/lap resets it finally got through. I finished my ride and reset the activity. Sunday I did another bike ride and the watch started up no problem and I can even see it in my activity history (although when I go to get more details in the "View More" screen it shows the same summary screen but briefly shows 0's in all the fields.

When I went to upload it today it only uploaded my Saturday activity. It wouldn't upload Sunday's activity. Instead it tries to download, fails and shows this message: "Last transfer with device Forerunner 310XT on 9/30/2012 8:55:55 PM failed." In another minute or so it tries the upload again and gives me the same message (new date stamp). I've tried updating the software but that didn't solve it. I tried just creating a 10 second workout to see if that would do it but that didn't help either. It wouldn't upload those either. I tried Stava too and it doesn't see the activity either. Anyone had this problem before? I had a long activity (50 miles) and can see it on the history on the watch so I know it's there.

Garmin support tells me to do a master reset, which would erase this activity, so I thought I would ask here before losing it for sure

Thanks in advance,
Andrew
  • I just did my first workout on my 310xt yesterday, and today while getting the ant agent and everything setup, I thought I had transferred the activity (as there was only one to transfer) successfully. I noticed it was no longer shown on my forerunner, but then I discovered that I didn't have the setting checked to delete transferred workouts. So... my forerunner lost the workout I think. I've used a forerunner 210 for a while, it was really straight-forward.

Anybody know why my workout seems to have disappeared into space? I'm not sure if it's the watch or the ant agent... or my computer
Before hooking up the ant agent, I tried the basic USB-to-forerunner connection to try to transfer data to my training site. My computer didn't recognize any device, but unfortunately, this computer kind of sucks and does that sometimes anyway. So, now I don't know if it's the computer, my garmin, or my ant thing... something is not working properly.

I mean, maybe I'm a moron...but it shouldn't take a degree from Ga Tech (which I actually have) to figure this out! :(

I can't get this to work.
I had the 310XT for almost 3 years and had a few glitches here and there.
But as of today and 2 hours of frustration I can't get it to upload data.
    All uploads fail.
I did several resets, deleted all activities, recorded new ones, etc. but nothing seems to work. It starts downloading and waits a few seconds when at 100%, then in the Agent window I get a message that last transfer failed.
Then it tries again and again forever.
One reset today started with age 0, height 0 and weight of 4,000lbs. The other one was normal, age 35, 5'10" and 150lbs as starting points.
Any new activity I record seems to make the other show a different time than the correct one.

Great use for a Saturday afternoon indeed!

    Help?

What solved it for me (and miraculously also uploaded the deleted activities so no data lost :) was the full reset as detailed here:
    https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B5f25c9c0-cb5b-11e1-dcef-000000000000%7D

    To perform the master reset:

    1. Power off Forerunner
    2. Hold Lap/Reset and Power
    3. Release Power when Garmin logo appears
    4. Press and hold Mode and Enter
    5. Wait 3 seconds
    6. Release Lap/Reset
    7. Wait 5 seconds
    8. Release Mode and Enter

This was also the only procedure that made my custom run settings disappear.
  • 310 xt no longer downloading

folks, I too had a similar problem, and it started at about the same time as your posts. I called support and we tried that factory reset to no avail. they did provide a solution , while not ideal, seems to work. Previously i had been using Firefox for my garmin connect. By using IE explorer , I was able to manually upload the data to my garmin after each work out. what was a 1 step process became a 2 step process; :( ; but at least it works. btw, I sort of chronologically traced the inception of the issue to the same time that I upgraded my AVG software to the latest version-- not sure if that caused the problem. I just got this device and the same thing just happened to me. This worked for me... Go into the ANT drop down menu and selected "Manage Paired Devices..." Select your device and remove it. And then it will re-pair your device and data will transfer. Good luck! (I hope I don't have to do that every time...)

Next step when i open the garmin center and i have to transfer my new workout its not working. I must to close the watch and reopen the software to transfer the workouts.

I too had a similar issue, though my own was masked by the year end - 31 Dec run transferred fine, 01 Jan 2013 was broken. I tried deleting individual activities

Mode > History > Delete > Individual activities

but the offending article would not delete - all those around it vanished nicely (isn't that just the way?!)

I tried off&on, I tried dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight, I did not try SEILOGRUMP's 'return to factory settings' because that's just heartache on a whole new level.

I checked my dashboard was up to date with as much non-corrupt data as possible, I manually updated my fetcheveryone.com account with the data from my Forerunner 310XT and plunged into deleting the whole history - in the hope that the algorithm to do this was more robust that it's individual activity deletion.

It now says 'No history saved' [sob].

[Perks up instantly] HOWEVER, I started my timer and jumped around the office for a bit, I checked the activity history and there my exertions were, I inserted my ANT stick, held my breath et voila ! My dashboard now shows 15 seconds of leaping around the house (didn't want to overdo it).

C'est fantastique all over again !

    Hallo again
I did the master reset yesterday https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={5f25c9c0-cb5b-11e1-dcef-000000000000} but the problem still there "Last transfer with device Forerunner 310XT on date time failed"
For the first time after master reset the message of transfer was successful but later again failed.
Do you have any solution about it? What about the support of Garmin? There are many people that have this problem.

Any answer from the support team ????? AT ALL ???!!!

    Did you fix your issue?
Is there any solution from the Garmin tech support department?
I have this same problem and many others with a fearly new unit. I am startng to think if Garmin was the right choice.

Look through your history for any activities that have dates, times or distances that you know are incorrect and delete them on your device before syncing. I found multiple events on the device dated from 2007 that were erroneous. I deleted them and the sync went through. I also found that if I tried to record multiple events like a ride and a run back to back I had to record them separately instead of using the multi sport feature. Also using the device as a heart rate monitor indoors without GPS created syncing issues later. Check for those type of workouts and get rid of them. You can always add them manually without the GPS or route data.
