310XT - ""Last transfer with device Forerunner 310XT on 9/30/2012 8:55:55 PM failed."

Guys,

I have a 310 that will not transfer one of the activities I just did. I've done a search but couldn't find any solutions.

Quick background. Saturday I went on a bike ride. When I powered the watch on it would get stuck at the small text Garmin startup screen. After a half dozen or more mode/lap resets it finally got through. I finished my ride and reset the activity. Sunday I did another bike ride and the watch started up no problem and I can even see it in my activity history (although when I go to get more details in the "View More" screen it shows the same summary screen but briefly shows 0's in all the fields.

When I went to upload it today it only uploaded my Saturday activity. It wouldn't upload Sunday's activity. Instead it tries to download, fails and shows this message: "Last transfer with device Forerunner 310XT on 9/30/2012 8:55:55 PM failed." In another minute or so it tries the upload again and gives me the same message (new date stamp). I've tried updating the software but that didn't solve it. I tried just creating a 10 second workout to see if that would do it but that didn't help either. It wouldn't upload those either. I tried Stava too and it doesn't see the activity either. Anyone had this problem before? I had a long activity (50 miles) and can see it on the history on the watch so I know it's there.

Garmin support tells me to do a master reset, which would erase this activity, so I thought I would ask here before losing it for sure

I have the exact same problem with my FR610. It happened yesterday for the first time. Let's hope someone has a solution.

Forerunner 310XT data is never able to complete via Garmin Ant Agent v 2.2. So ALL the data (irrespective of the type) on my forerunner for the last 25 days is in the history but won't transfer either via ANT agent or via the USB cable and Garmin Communicator Plugin version 4.0.3.0. Both ANT agent and Communicator pulgin recognize the device. But data never transfers and doesn't show up in the Garmin Connect activities.My Forerunner 310 XT has version4.5 GPS 2.10

My 310XT also have same problem since Sept 30. I tried hard and soft reset and uninstall Ant+ agent and its plug-in still can't resolve!

I am glad I am not the only one but I am disappointed to not see a solution somewhere on this site or this thread. I am getting the same error you describe.

My 310XT device will not sync with my MacBook Pro running OSX Lion 10.7.5 via the ANT Agent. I haven't been able to get a sync to occur since September 23. The sync process begins by recognizing the ANT stick through the ANT Agent as usual. Shortly after the data transfer begins and the status bar shows progress of about 7%, the process stops and tells me that it has failed to connect. I have tried every imaginable solution found on this site and others- including deleting workouts, however the unit says that I have only used 28% of available memory. I have updated the software on the laptop through the typical itunes/Apple push. There are about 50 workouts stored with dates of 10-11-12 or 10-13-12 most occurring around 12:54:10 PM.

software version on device is 4.50, GPS: 2.10

Any ideas or suggestions that does not include erasing all my data?

Guys. I deleted the first activity that was trying to upload, the one that was probably corrupt and the I did the hard reset. That did the trick. What I would suggest first is to try the hard reset without deleting any activities. If that doesn't work, via your garmin, browse through the activities to see if you can see which activity is messed up. For my when I looked at my one bike ride, it had the time and speed, and distance, but when I went into the more detail screen it would come up quickly as all zeros and the go back to the summary screen. if you find one like that and the hard reset didn't work, I would try deleting that activity and see if that doesn't fix it, then the final hard reset might work. It did for me. I'd be interested to see what you guys find.

I thought it did too, but when I did it it didn't delete all the activities. That said, plan as that as a worst case.

If performed correctly, a hard (master) reset will delete all activities, courses, custom workouts, and personal settings. It puts the unit back to day 1 factory defaults.

Soft Reset: lap + mode
Hard Reset: mode + power
Hard Reset no prompt: enter + mode + tap power button
Get PC to recognize forerunner after corrupted software: up arrow + power
Re-acquire satellites: down arrow + power
Diagnostics: enter + power

Garmin 310XT Trouble Shooting

I deleted a few suspicious looking activities and the download took.

Experienced the same trouble this weekend. My 310XT would not upload to the computer nor would it indicated a normal turn on sequence, that is to say, it did not show the "acquiring satellite" screen while in the acquiring satellite mode. After deleting all history, and doing a master reset, including "delete all", my 310XT revealed, after a very lengthy, and surprising, but successful upload of my last recorded run, that it did not delete any record that had not been successfully uploaded, including the source of the problem, corrupted history records (they contained zeros in some data fields and displayed an inaccurate, but yet consistent, start time throughout each corrupted record). They were still there. The original upload problem, i.e., its length of time and success, was resolved when, after this, I deleted, again, all history. The corrupted records disappeared and so did my last recorded, and final, successfully-uploaded, run. My 310XT is now re-initialized (from factory default status) with no records and showing a normal turn-on sequence.

Lesson learned? Pay attention to how and in what sequence you do your uploads through your computer. Ensure that you have reset your last run before turning off, and then back on for upload, your 310XT. Let the Garmin ANT Agent finish its business before doing anything else. Do not alter or interrupt the upload sequence or process in anyway. It is, in my opinion and experience, that when the upload process is disturbed, record corruption occurs. Corrupted records play havoc with proper 310XT operation. 'nough said, for now.
