Previously-imported track has disappeared from Garmin Connect site

I've seen some posts where folks are asking if anyone is able to import gpx or tcx manually, and I haven't responded because it hasn't been working for me lately either & I have no workaround. This morning I just noticed that a SUCCESSFUL import I did back in June now has a blank map section - ">here">here. Not only that, but when I export gpx for that activity from Garmin Connect & try to open it with another program (Garmin's own MapSource), it's empty. The import was from a gpx file generated on an Android phone running the built-in Google "My Tracks" app during a hike in Hot Springs National Park (Arkansas, USA).

I know the track existed and the map wasn't empty in June when I imported it to Garmin Connect because I remember writing the comment section after the import completed, while looking at the map data. But since then it's disappeared. Unfortunately I had to hard-reset my phone so I've lost the original gpx file that I exported from My Tracks and imported into Garmin Connect, although I may have a backup on my home desktop's hard drive.

Has this been happening to anyone else? Any idea how I could recover that lost track?

[ EDIT: Just remembered that I had also uploaded this file onto another run-tracking website, so I export the gpx file from there. I can no longer successfully import this into Garmin Connect. Using Manual Upload, I select the file & get the dreaded "Some activities could not be created". *sigh* The gpx file is attached for anyone else who might have a workaround for this issue ]

  • The maps for my manually uploaded gpx files have been steadily disappearing too - recent ones are viewable, older ones not. I contacted customer support and one of the things they said was

"When Garmin Connect was originally developed it was initially going to be designed as an alternative for all Garmin outdoor and Fitness devices. As more and more people began using the site, it was apparent that most people were using it as a fitness training tool and so the site gradually began to change to facilitate the use of our fitness devices and away from the outdoor handheld devices. Because the fitness devices record data in a different way, files recorded using a typical outdoor device may no longer be uploaded, read, interpreted or displayed correctly on the site. We do not do anything with this data once it has been uploaded but as the site changed, so too did its ability to read certain files. We would always have encouraged the use of BaseCamp instead of Garmin Connect for outdoor devices such as your GPSMap60Cs as this saves the hard files on your computer and all of the recorded track data will be viewable there and is able to be backed up to ensure the safety of the files."

I can reupload the files and the map is then perfectly viewable, so I don't understand what is going on.

In your gpx file there is no time information, so maybe that is why you cannot upload it.
  • The same happened to me. Activities recorded by edge 205 and uploaded before 2010 are now without associated maps. Also details about laps disappeared. Could anybody give me an explanation? Is it due to migration to "modern" look?
