Forerunner 610 lost data..

I collected my new Forerunner 610 yesteday, and promptly went for a run last night. This morning I have installed the ANT client, paired the device, and then it told me that it had uploaded my data to garmin connect (via an account I had already setup).

However, when i look on Garmin Connect, my run is not there. I then check the device, and in the history it says there are no activities. The weird thing is though that on my "Totals" part on the device, it says "5 Miles, 38:16". So it knows what i did.......but i just cant see what i did, nor transfer it.

To check the whole thing over, i quickly pressed start and then stop a few seconds later. This second "activity" then automatically synced up to garmin connect, and for that one i can see an entry on the website!

Anyone have any ideas what has happened here, and whether or not i can retrieve last nights lost activity?

Thanks

Steve

I have ahd the same thing 3 times in 6 yrs of using garmin FR's. Only on the 610. Today I did a PB on 10k and the activity was there before as I was looking in the history at the end of the race. When I come home to download it is not there, As you say the history totals up the race, but the individual activity is gone. I haven't found any way to recover it.....

    Rgds
  • I don't know if it has anything to do with it, because I have the 610 only for short period and have this not happen to me, but do guys make sure that you push (and keep it pushed) the "lap/reset" button for at least three seconds, after the workout is done or after you have pushed the stop button, when done? This will not only reset the watch back to zero, but actually saves the information to the history/activities.... (I think). It is at least worth a try. I have not had an activity gone missing yet (knock on wood....).

Yes, I read the manual in the end, and it does say in there to reset after you run. So now I hold down lap /reset for 3 seconds and so far, touch wood, I've had no more issues.

This just happend to me today also on my Garmin 610. I went for a run, reviewed the history on my watch, uploaded to my computer via ANT, and nothing was transferred to Garmin Connect. The Ant Agent program did claim that everything worked fine and successfully uploaded. The activity also was no longer reflected on the watch after the transfer. I like also did NOT hold the reset button after the workout.

After doing some sleuthing online, I was able to recover the datafile using the information from here:
    https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B6e1aa610-6d25-11dc-6782-000000000000%7D

Directly uploading the Garmin .FIT file to Garmin Connect did not work for me as the website reported and error. I used another program called Ascent on the Mac to open the .FIT file, export it to .TCX, and then re-upload it to Garmin Connect. After doing that, I finally was able to see the data from my workout.

Hopefully this info helps you or someone who has lost data.

I experienced the problem first time today, I solved it by going into the History-part of the menu on the device and triggering a manual upload from there.

    same problem

I had the same problem today. Annoying as it's totally new and seems rather silly. I tried above but could not get it to work, unless by 'trigger manual upload' you mean, copy the figures manually onto the site, which I did. I also tried the fancy thing from start menu, but only got as far as looking at history, which didn't include anything from the correct day, only the day before.

I also didn't save it by mistake. My old crummy 110 never ever had this problem, not once! I hope it doesn't happen again. Grrr.

I had the same problem today when I finished a 6km interval session that I had on the 610 as a workout. When the workout finished I pushed and held the the start/stop for 3 seconds and the timer stopped like it has for the past few runs. I have only had this watch since Xmas and before today had not experienced any bugs at all. The workout was in the history until I turned the watch off now it's gone. It was still recorded in the weekly totals but that's not what I'm interested in.
I will try to search for the hidden file as mentioned in an earlier post later today. Also I'm not sure if it's all connected or to do with different computers and software versions but I have been using my nephews Mac book pro to upload and download data , then I get home from holidays and start using the old laptop with windows vista 16bit loaded and the garmin connect software just isn't working the same. It won't let me send workouts to the watch either, it says they are sent but don't appear on the watch. This is the one function I really like so any help with this would be great.

So far I'm loving this watch and it's so much better than the nike+ sensor I have been using, I just hope it doesn't lose any more workouts.
    Rabbs.
  • After stopping the timer, it is the lap/reset button you have to hold for about three seconds to save your ride, not the start/stop button.

I've had this problem many, many times. I've owned the 310XT for 3 years now and use it all the time. I've lost several important workouts never to be found again. I also find that the date resets every once in a while without prior notice. Then the workout shows up as March 2007. Very annoying for a $400 device. I've managed to recover a few by the manual upload, but not all.
