I see this issue on pretty much every of my runs - there are always at least a few narrow spikes on the pace chart that go all the way to 0 min/mile. Usually these spikes are followed by dips where the pace goes to 30-40 min/mile. I am pretty sure these are not stops. These are probably some issues with the GPS reception and/or corrupted data points. I don't see the same problem when I import data into SportTracks. Somehow SportTracks filter the data so the pace charts look much better.
Needless to say that this issue makes it much more difficult to analyze the pace charts. These spikes and dips create visual noice significanly compress the actual pace range. For example, on one of my recent long runs, on Garmin Connect the pace range is from 0 min/mile to 40+ min/mile. When I look at the same run imported into SportTracks, it shows the pace range from 7 min/mile to 16 min/mile. That is much more useful.
I wonder if Garmin is going to do anything about this issue? As far as I can tell it has been happening for a while.
