fenix: auto lap distance different in garmin connect

On my 405 and 610 if I set the auto lap at 1 mile and then upload the data to garmin connect I get splits which read 1.00 miles per lap. However, with the new fenix I have the auto lap set at 1 mile and in garmin connect the laps are always between .94 and .98 miles.

Is this due to the way garmin connect reads the fenix data files, or is this a bug with the fenix where it isn't actually auto lapping correctly?

Has anybody gotten the fenix auto lap to work correctly?
  • It depends on the frequency of the gps location storing it seems. Go to Setup->Tracks->Method and change to "Distance" and pick interval at a fraction of your 1 mile distance. That seems to work for me. I did however end up using automatic and then change the interval down to something more frequently than "normal". That did the trick for me.

That makes sense. I will give it a shot.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately even with GPS recording at 1s the problem still persists.

It looks like Garmin fixed this with the new 2.6.0 firmware update. It now explicitly writes the lap distance to the .fit file so it shows up in garmin connect as you would expect (well as you are used to at least).
