BUG: Elevation Doesn't Show in metric!

Former Member

Folks,

I have had an intermittent problem with Garmin Connect's Elevation view of Courses. I have tried different PCs and both IE and Chrome and I can reproduce the problem consistently. The problem is present whether or not I log in.

Here is how you can reproduce the issue:

Go the to this Course: http://connect.garmin.com/course/1296442

Based on your setting click on the "View in Statute" or "View in Metric" options at the top and the Elevation profile is going to be lost or presented.
I have attached screenshots.

This feature is one of the unique features of Garmin Connect that keeps bringing me back to it. But having it fail on me gets so frustration, resort to doing this in Google Earth.

Surely other people would be experiencing the same problem.

Anyone else is having the issue as well?

Any solutions, work-arounds?

Cheers,
Tooraj
  • Hi Tooraj,

I'm having exactly the same problem, although it only happens with one of my courses. It happens to be my longest course so perhaps it has something to do with file size, I don't know.

    Here is the course: http://connect.garmin.com/course/4486862

Did you ever get a response from Garmin, or find a solution to the problem?

    cheers
    Francis

    Hi Francis,

I never heard back anything from anyone. I even reported it to Garmin Support but I got lots of very basic questions and unrelated qestions (such as which device I was using etc.) that I just gave up following up. Luckily it stopped happening for me. I just assumed Garmin changed something to fix it.

For me it happened to all my routes. Once I started getting it, I'd get it for all my routes. I had to then change it to away from metric to imperial to get around it. I would then change it back to metric a few days later and it would be OK.

I haven't seen it happen to me for a few months now.

    Regards,
    Tooraj

BTW, I just checked your route and I don't get any elevation either (so definitely not a PC related issue). But here is the interesting bit... When I switch the map to Open StreetMap and wait for 30 seconds (while Chrome recovers from hanging!) the elevation profile appears. It seems to be an issue related to Google mapping.

    Cheers,
