Some Activities' data has disappeared or is not displayed.

Some activities that I have uploaded to Garmin Connect have lost Route, Pace, Elevation, Heart Rate and Split Time information.
This information was present to begin with, as I remember studying it. However on re-inspection of these activities through both the calendar and activities page, the information does not display. The web page had blank white boxes where this information used to be. I even uploaded one of these events again and was able to retrieve this information and delete the faulty activity, only to see that I have again lost the data when I checked today.

Is this a known bug? Is there something I can do to prevent losing this information?

Thanks for any help!
  • Can you post a link to one of your problematic activities?

    Ah yes,

    This one
    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/214028795
    or this one
    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/217102125
    are examples of problematic activities.

By comparison, this one is unaffected - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/215980751
  • The difference I see between success and no success is the amount of text in your notes. To test this I exported your Birthday run a a TCX file then did a manual import to my own dashboard. Looks fine on my dashboard with limited notes. So you may have reached some sort of undocumented threshold of text. At least that's my theory.

Ok thanks, I'll try to limit the amount of text in my notes from now on, and see if that fixes things. Thank you for your help :)
  • Yes, I concur. I've been having trouble retrieving some rides, without fail, all the touring rides I've done.

The graph data won't load and there's loads of javascript errors. Really frustrating as I can't export the ride data and in some instances I don't have the original ride data.

But the common denominator I believe is that for these activities is that I entered alot more text on account of wanting to diarise all the ride details.

If it is a text threshold limit, it must be easy to fix and I can't quite believe Garmin haven't pulled their finger out on this one.

I am having the same problem with blank boxes of data. On top of that, I cannot access the activity to edit anything. Strangely, I was in this activity earlier today and was able to edit, so I'm not sure why all of the sudden I no longer can. This is affecting a few of my activities, not just one. I don't have this activity, or the others, on my Edge 800 anymore and I'd really hate to lose it. I'd love to find a solution to this and would just like to add that if it is indeed caused by too much text in the notes, maybe Garmin Connect could warn you, have a character counter or something? Maybe not accept your text if it's too long? Save some headaches for users.

I have had the same problem but only for the last 3-4 weeks.

When I upload a ride everything is fine. When I fill in a title, activity type, etc everything is fine.

As soon as add text to describe trail conditions and so on the map and all graphs disappear!

There is a 2000 character limit on Garmin Connect (if you write more an error comes up) I can't believe there is a smaller unknown threshold, especially sice I have not had this problem until very recently.

Why are my graphs disappearing when I add text???

I have also been effected by this recently. Previously if you entered too long a description, Garmin Connect used to truncate your description (at ~ 2000 characters) and everything would continue to display correctly. However, medium length descriptions now seems to cause a bug in the details display (lost map track, graphs etc) and disable use of edit button, padlock etc.

After some testing, one of my long descriptions was fine once I'd cut it down to 998 chars (special characters, eg '%' will reduce this further). I haven't looked at the HTML source, but I'm presuming it is a bug on the "details" page. If you go to the "splits" the same long description doesn't have any side effect on the tool bar and you can edit your description from here.

Thus, all you have to do is go to splits tab and quick edit from there, shorten your description to clearly less than 1000 characters (~ 250 words) and all your details will return.

I've been in contact with Garmin support, so hopefully they'll fix the bug in a not too distant release of Garmin Connect.
