Differences between several GPSMAP 60Csx versus 62S functions

I have had 4 60Cs and Cxss and understand the product quite well. I just upgraded to the 62s, primarily because Garmin no longer provides any 60 software/firmware updates. I quickly noticed 2 significant differences between the 2 GPSs. I cannot upload or download waypoints to/from Delorme's Topo software (Topo 8). Topo 8 doesn't recognize the 62 USB port - but it does if I connect the 60Csx. When I connect the 62 to my computer via the USB, none of the screen functios/keys are available. The Garmin Logo and the USB symbol appear on the screen, but nothing else can be done. With the 60Csx, when you connect to a computer, the same functions available with Battery use are available via the USB. Am I doing something dumb, or is this the way the 62 is supposed to work?
