Total Ascent / Descent Accuracy GPSMap 62sc

I've had 2 GPSMap62sc and both accumulate tens of feet per minute of total ascent / descent when the unit is stationary and recently calibrated. It seems that there is excessive sensitivity to the normal minor deviations in the sensors and they accumulate way to many changes. On a recent short hike of a couple hours, my unit indicated that I had gone up and down nearly 8,000 feet.

During my research on this unit, others had a similar problem initially, but firmware enhancements improved this. Has this gone backwards or is this just a useless data feature that simply needs to be dismissed as theoretical, but not real?

Garmin replaced the unit based on this inacuracy (and a few other issues), but the replacement unit behaves the same.
