Save Course from Garmin Connect to a file

Have searched all forums, and can't find answer on following.

I've got a set of courses in Garmin Connect, I'd like to handle/update in Basecamp.
The only option I see in Garmin Connect is to send a course to a connected device (eg. Edge 800).
However I don't see an option to export a course to a file, which I can then import in Basecamp.
So, how do I transfer a course from Garmin Connect to Basecamp?

Any advize on this? Thank you.
    • Go to Garmin Connect > Plan > Courses. Select course > View Details
    • Click Send To Device > Send Course.

This doesn't actually send to your device (yet). All this does is put the .fit file on your computer at this location:

    On Windows Vista/7:

    C:\Users\<user ID>\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Devices\<device ID>\NewFiles

The application data folder is hidden, so follow this in order to unhide it:

    on Mac OS:
    <user>/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Devices/Device ID/NewFiles

    • Browse to one of the locations above to verify the file exists now on your computer. You will see a file something like this: course_1560248.FIT.
    • To make it easier for the next step, copy the .fit file to a familiar location on your computer (desktop, documents, etc.).
    • Open Garmin Training Center (free download from Garmin, if you need it).
    • Go to File > Import > Courses. Browse to where you saved the .fit file, then click "Open."
    • Select the course you just imported, then right click > Select Export. Save it to a known location on your computer as a tcx file.
    • Open BaseCamp, then import the tcx file.
  • Thank you.
I've done the above incl the setting for hidden files.
    I'm working on Windows XP.

Have used the search option to find any .fit file, but none is being created.
Also none of the above directories (similar to C:\Users\<user ID>\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Devices\<device ID>\NewFiles) is being found.

    Thanks for your advize.
  • Windows XP users "Documents and Settings" rather than users. Also, when you search you're going to have to click on the advanced option to make sure you're looking for hidden folders and files.

Hello. I am trying to do the above transfer but the .fit file does not exist at the above location on the Mac.

    I navigated here:
    <user>/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Devices/Device ID/NewFiles
but there is no Devices folder at this location. Has this been updated to somewhere else?

I did a search for any .fit file and came up empty.

Just found this thread after some hair-tearing trying to get a course from Connect (both modern and classic) into BaseCamp.
    Thanks for the info SEILOGRAMP.

I'm using Garmin Express on Windows 7, the files generated by "send to device" appear in a different directory:
    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Core Update Service\Sync\<device_id>\Download

And they have funky names, e.g.
    w0kt3vgi.5py
    whuwkbz0.kx4
    fe4uiorn.bgu

However, rename these to <name>.FIT and they're good to import into Basecamp.
