Backup for Mac?

I am installing a new OS (going from Leopard to Mountain Lion) on my Mac which requires wiping the drive. I have City Nav NA DVD installed on the machine.

Is it possible to do a backup and reinstall without losing the maps. I know the DVD version is not transferable, but I will be using the same machine. Will this kill the maps?
  • You can backup your maps (and restore them later) with JaVaWa GMTK
GMTK doesn't do your BaseCamp data, but BaseCamp itself has an option for that.
  • I am surprised you have to wipe the drive. Mac transitions are usually quite seamless. If you do not have a time machine backup then now maybe the time to get one in place. You can get hold of 1 -or TB drives quite cheaply now. Make a time machine backup, clear the drive, load Mountain Lion, restore the back up and then keep it going..
