USB Device Not Recognized

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 3490LMT. I plugged it into my PC USB port and logged onto Garmin's dashboard and downloaded their connection software and USB driver. I got successful installs on both. When I tried to register the 3490, the website couldn't find it. Upon turning the Garmin off and on again, Windows XP gave the following error msg: "USB Device Not Recognized"

I tried re-installing everything again, got successful installs, and yet Garmin's USB driver either isn't properly installed or isn't working properly. I went into the device manager and couldn't find a USB driver for the Garmin.

Any ideas?

I must have had some water get into my USB port too. I tired everything installing and uninstalling Garmin Express/Connect/USB drivers, rebooting my Windows 8 laptop, plugging in my Garmin 800 while holding the reset button, still same error: This accessory is not supported. I used a shot of throttle body cleaner (this port is sealed from the inside of the Garmin itself), its made for electronics and bam plugged it in again and Windows recognized it.

I'd be careful with throttle body cleaner. Most I know of are not recommended for plastic. Might melt it. There are cleaners made specifically for electrical contacts, but I'd check their recommendation for use on plastic too. WD 40 has worked well for many, but don't go crazy with it either.
