Zumo 660 - Missing System Software

Former Member
Former Member
I updated my Zumo 660 via web (mygarmin dashboard) last week.
When I restarted, the screen showed "Missing system software".
Tried connecting to PC via USB but the unit was not recognized.
Is this problem common when you are doing the update?
Emailed to Garmin Support and been forwarded to Garmin Asia.
They asked me to check with local distributor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Been quoted USD270 for shipping cost to send to factory to repair. That's nearly half of new unit price.
Need help coz I can't afford to throw it after purchasing Lifetime Update for Europe Map about 3 months ago.
Any similar issue with other users?
  • I had the same problem recently and found a web page with the answer. I down loaded two pieces of software and ran the updater and then the repair file, all in windows explorer and it worked for me.
Check out this web page, you will have to translate the dutch to english.

Goodness, it worked! Here is the fix:
Go to http://bel.garmin.com/missing.html and click on the link "zumo 660 : software missing". this will download a zip file with two files in it. Unzip to a folder and open Windows Explorer or a graphical file view so you can see both files. Have your Zumo plugged in via USB. Drag and drop the file "092400010320.rgn" onto the executable (updater.exe). I tried multiple time to open updater.exe and then load the SW but wouldn't work - so be sure to use the drag and drop method. If your Zumo isn't shown in the usb field, you may have to hit the power button on the Zumo once or twice. once the updater program "sees" the device, choose OK to update it. Best of luck! I was ready to send back to Garmin for $160 + shipping!:D
  • Thank you, I will give it a try tonite
