Trap a GPS point?

On a Forerunner 305, is it possible to somehow get GPS coordinates for some point on the trail display?
  • Yes, you can mark a location, which will give you the coordinates. Check out the Forerunner 305 Owner's Manual, page 36.

    From the manual page 36:

To mark a location using lat/lon coordinates:
    1. Press mode to access the Main Menu. Select Navigation > Mark Location.
    2. Select the Position field. Enter the latitude and longitude of the location you want to mark.
    3. Make other changes as necessary and select OK.
    -----------------
I don't understand these instructions. Where am I supposed to get the latitude and longitude numbers to enter in step #2?

btw: Why does Garmin add copy security to the manual PDF file? I had to bust that security to copy the above information. Sheese.
  • From the manual page 36:

To mark a location using lat/lon coordinates:

No, I would do the section before that "To Mark Your Location,"where you mark you current location. The lat/lon will then be automatically viewable for that location.

OK, so assuming I set some points while out on a hike, will this data show up in Garmin Connect? How do I retrieve the GPS data?

I marked a point today during a hike. If I look at the history of the hike on the 305, I can see a flag marker where I marked the location.

    1. There does not seem to be a way to show the GPS coodinates for that point.

    2. is no indicators at all anywhere in Garmin Connect showing this point. Shoud there be? Am I missing something?
