Custom workout did not record mile splits

I'm using the Forerunner 310XT. For the first time ever, I created a workout using Garmin Connect. Specifically, I had two steps (1) 13 miles @ 9:30-9:34 pace and (2) 10-minute cool down. I sent the workout to my Garmin, no issues.

During the workout, I noticed that auto lap (at every mile) wasn't happening. I confirmed that alert for auto lap was set to "ON" (Settings/Other Settings/Auto Lap - By Distance, 1.00 Mi). It was. Since I'd never used a customized workout before, I assumed that maybe the alerts were disable or worked differently, but I expected that my mile splits were being recorded.

When I downloaded the workout to Garmin Connect, following my run, I only saw two "splits": one for the total time of my 13 miles and the second for my 10-minute cool down. Question: Do I need to manually press the "lap" button at each mile? If not, what did I do incorrectly?

If I remember correctly you only get one or the other. So you can either have your device (I'm on a Forerunner 405 btw) do laps automatically OR record the advanced workout.

I asked support specifically about this before and that's what I remember them saying. I too wish I could get both, but I suppose they would possibly have to be recorded separately though, which is probably beyond the architecture of the device (I'm guessing).....

Thank you for the information. Kind of disappointing, but I now know that I'll have to manually record each split OR simply not bother with creating a workout and just hit "start" like I've done previously. Thanks, again!

There are a couple of work-arounds that might help.

    1. If you want to use the advance workout to help keep you in at a particular pace and still want to collect mile splits just set up a 1 mile step at the pace you want and repeat it for the 13 miles. You can also add warm-up and cool-down steps. That way you will get a mile split at the end of each of your mile steps, and get the benefit of a warning alarm if you deviate from your target pace.

    2. Forget about the advanced workout, just run with autolap on to get you mile splits, but you could try turning on the Virtual Partner and dialling that in to the pace you require, or just set up a pace screen that shows you the current lap pace and average overall pace. That should be enough to keep you at your desired pace, but you don't get the alarms that you would from the advanced workout if you drift away from your target pace.

Thank you for both suggestions. I had just gone through the process of setting up the 13 mile repeats, as you suggested, when I saw your response. A bit more work, but not the end of the world.

Appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
