Recently, I read the Terms of Use for Garmin Connect (and other Garmin services). One section, on what Garmin may do with my data, is nothing but horrifying. The terms are presented in my local language (Norwegian), here is a section translated through Google Translate:
By placing material on the Garmin site, you automatically grant, or warrant that the owner of the material has expressly granted, Garmin automatically a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt , publish, translate and distribute such material (in whole or part) worldwide and / or incorporate it into other works in any form, media or technology now known or later developed, throughout the term of protection of copyright or other rights that may exist in the material. You also grant to all other users permission to access, view, store or reproduce the material to the user's personal use. You hereby Garmin right to edit, copy, publish and distribute any material you make available on all Garmin areas.
The underlining is my own.
Seriously, Garmin! I love your services, but this way of treating your customers data is absolutely unacceptable! I haven't yet accepted the updated Terms of Use, and I'm not sure I will.
My data is my own. Please respect my data, my copyright and my privacy.
Best regards,
