I now have more than one pageful of activities, but if I try to select another page either by number or by clicking on an arrow for the next page it clears the list and sits with "Loading" in the middle of the list area. Also if I try to resort the list by clicking on one of the headings it does the same thing. It doesn't matter how long I wait it will not complete reloading the list.
This effectively means I can only see my last 20 activites and every new activity means one more I can't see any more. Also, is there any way to alter how many activities are shown in the list at one time?
Why is it broken and what will it take to fix it? If no one else is getting this problem (and no one seems to be) then why am I getting it?

I've just found the answer, thanks to Seilogramp. GC needs to be viewed in Compatibility Mode when using IE9.
