Display the measurement units in Metric (Kilometres) by default to other people?

Every time I email a friend a URL Link of my recent activity it displays the measurement units in Statute (Miles) by default instead of Metric (Kilometres), even though my display settings are set to Metric. The same problem occurs if I’m logged in, it will display it in Metric but if I log out it will display it in Statute, then I have to go to the top right of screen and click “View in Metric”

I would’ve assumed if I emailed anyone a URL Link of any activity it will display it based on my default measurement unit settings. I’m from Australia and we use Metrics and not Statute, many people (friends) that don’t have a Garmin account and don’t know how to change it to Metrics…

I was hoping that there is a better solution for this displaying problem…

If not can the Garmin tech people change the system so if any person clicks a URL Link of any activity, it checks the URL Link measurement unit settings of the actual Garmin account holder and displays it accordingly

This request should not be that hard to implement :)
  • The measurement units could be part of the URL as a variable. Come on garmin, this should be easy...

Same problem here, (in italy) I use to embed activities on my blog and measurement is not in the metric format as it should.

Units and language should be embed in the url.
  • Come on garmin, this would really be cool if you this small change!

I'm from Portugal, and we use the metric system. I just sent the url of an activity to a friend who doesn't have an account, and he was surprised the units weren't in metric...
Suffice to say, he was not impressed with Garmin. You may have just lost a potential customer here.

Please Garmin people, fix this. How hard can it really be?

This has been going on for years and has never been fixed. Our blog embeds of the Garmin Connect ride are always in miles and so forth, whereas here in France we are obviously on metric. Garmin has been ignoring this for several years now.

To send a metric URL right click on the "View in Metric" link in the top right corner then select "Copy link address". This works most of the time but the parameter in the URL tells Connect to switch the view so if the person who clicks the link is not logged in they switch from the default (statute) to metric. However if you are logged in with metric settings then it switches you to statute!

This is annoying as I want to embed ride routes onto a web site but I'm in Australia so I want them to display in metric. It should be possible to add ?units=metric to the url and have everything work properly.
  • Someone has reported this problem already 2009 and still we have this problem. If Garmin cannot fix this kind of problem how can they fix anything else?
