etrex 30 route sort order under where to menu

What is the sort order for routes in the eTrex 30 under where to?

I loaded Adventure Cycling Association GPX files for the Tour Divide route by copying into the GARMIN folder on the device. The list of routes under the where to menu appears sorted in random order. Inside the GPX file they are named appropriately to sort in alphabetical order.

I tested by creating 3 routes near me named att01, att02, att03. After copying to the eTrex 30 the routes display as
Where To?
\Routes
att02
att03
att01

The tags used in both my test gpx files and the ACA router are:
<rte>
<name>att03</name>
...
</rte>

sample route names from the ACA gpx files:
<name>M01010</name>
<name>M0101A</name>
<name>M0101M</name>
<name>M01020</name>
<name>M01030</name>
<name>M01050</name>
<name>M01090</name>
<name>M01097</name>
<name>M010A0</name>

On the eTrex they are displayed in the order:
M044A3
M055A5
M044B1
M055A3

What criteria is used for sorting? How can I affect it? Is it configurable?

    I think it by distance from current location. I too wish it were configurable.

    (Just in case the hardware guys are listening, I also like the Legend HCx track logging to SD card better than what the 30 does. An additional choice to start a new track each tiem the unit is powered on would be great so I don't get meaningless points from just playing around with the unit on the way to the trail head spliced onto a track of a hike)
  • OK, maybe now I have a clue why my Tracks seem to be sorted in some kind of random order. Sorting based on distance from current location is definitely not desirable.
