I sent the following to support:
Several times a week (about 50% of the times I try to login) I am unable to login to forums.garmin.com Each time I use the same username and password but get this error quite frequently:Wrong username or password. You have used up your failed login quota! Please wait 15 minutes before trying again.I wait sometimes hours and still get that error.
I got the stock response of clear cookies etc. However, this will not solve the problem. The following proves it:
- the lockout lasts far longer than 15 mins
- when it happens, I fire up chrome, firefox or IE and they all do this
- when it happens, I try from a different computer and get this
It is also worth noting that it is not a bad user/pass pair as my browser auto-fills those, so each time I login it is the same values.
I suspect there are issues beyond my control. A coworker of mine who is also a vBulletin expert explains that it is common to have people try to guess a user's password, and that locks them out. If such an attack is taking place on my account by a script, that could explain why the lockout lasts hours rather than 15 minutes (because they keep triggering the timer). It is very rare that I would attempt to connect from any netblock that is not within (or very close to) 72.64.64.0/18 . A quick look in your logs for the past 48 hrs may reveal another source IP, which would confirm a hack attempt.
Another possibility is some configuration problem on your end. Please take a look at this post as it may be in play there at Garmin. Or might spur some further thought and investigation to some other potential cause.
