How to get total elevation on new course?

I'm new to Garmin Connect and love the ability to create courses on the web before even riding them. I am wondering if it is possible to see the total elevation gain for a new course before riding it? There is the elevation chart, and you can see the current elevation for any point on the course, but I do not see any total elevation gain shown. I'd like to be able to design a new course and now the total gain before riding it, if possible. Thanks!
I don't benefit in any way from recommending another company's product, but you can certainly see a detailed elevation profile when you create your course on other free websites. As another frustrated Garmin Connect user, I've moved to RideWithGPS.com for my route planning needs. Give it a try.

GC does show an elevation profile when you make routes. The problem is total elevation, not the elevation profile. The software already knows the elevation because it spits out the elevation profile; something on GC's end is just busted because it doesn't calculate total elevation from information it already has.
What should be a simple fix is going on years of Garmin doing absolutely nothing and ignoring user requests to fix it.
I'm new to Garmin, spent good $$$ on an Edge and this seems to be a fix that would not take to much programming/$$$. Garmin needs to step up and add this feature. :(
Ride I did on Saturday, I had to guess the total elevation while making the route in GC a few days earlier. My guess was off by about 30-40% what it actually came to after ride was over and I uploaded the activity... :(
