How to get total elevation on new course?

I'm new to Garmin Connect and love the ability to create courses on the web before even riding them. I am wondering if it is possible to see the total elevation gain for a new course before riding it? There is the elevation chart, and you can see the current elevation for any point on the course, but I do not see any total elevation gain shown. I'd like to be able to design a new course and now the total gain before riding it, if possible. Thanks!

Likewise highly disappointed with this lack of functionality - particularly given the data is quite clearly there or the profile wouldn't show. Fix this Garmin your customer support and attention to detail is worryingly poor.

Creating 2d courses is nearly useless when analyzing unfamiliar territory and having to use one app to plan and another to record rides is just wimpy for a company like Garmin. I have sent Garmin emails, please to likewise.
  • Can you believe it? Over a year later and still can't do something this simple?
  • Hello, is there a fix for this yet?

I know I could just go ride the course and when I upload the activity it'll display total elevation, but that doesn't ways help.

I'd love to know total elevation numbers on new courses before I ride them!!!

I agree entirely. I need to know the cumultive height as I design the course. after 3 years please can you fix this. i wonder this is of any use to anyone without this functionality.

What is annoying is that Garmin Connect software already can calculate elevation - it does this when you Enable "Elevation Correction" after uploading an activity!

It's clearly just a broken feature on the Course creating program. Why else would it have the elevation display fields on both the GC website and GC App, if just to display nothing??

I inquired to Garmin weeks ago, and when I responded with specific questions, I got the ridiculous "submit idea" response (their response is after my response):

    Eddie,

Thank you for the response. I do get/see an Elevation Profile for new courses I make, however it is difficult to estimate the total elevation. If GarminConnect (GC) knows the elevation profile, why can't it calculate the total elevation?

Also when I upload an activity and enable Elevation Corrections, the software is doing exactly this - giving total elevation from the elevation profile. Why can't it also do the same for new courses I create? And lastly, if the program doesn't support total elevation for new courses, why do these fields even exist? Is there any way to map new routes and get total elevation?

    Kind regards,
    Ryan

Of course I already submitting this "idea" weeks ago, but the feature is still broken as it has been forever. I guess the best option is everyone continue to pester Garmin about this issue and maybe someone, somewhere will take some action.
  • I have some courses saved from a while ago, they do not show Elevation gain or loss in GC "classic" view, but they do show it in "modern" view. Have you tried creating a course in Modern view?

Actually....... Scratch that, it did show on a few that I happened to check, but not on others including one I just created. It's possible that I have either ridden those courses or they were created from a previous ride.

So yes, there is a problem with this feature.
  • If you create/upload a course from an activity it works - just not creating a course from scratch.

As for Classic/Modern view, the actual Courses web program seems to be identical. I believe it's merely just the same program inserted/coded into the webpage of each version.
