Route navigation problem

I’m a newbie to the GPS world and this forum. I have a new 60CSX and Mapsource City Nav N America on my computer. I’m trying to learn to create Routes on Mapsource and navigate them on my 60 CSX. I have created a test route of my neighborhood which has about a dozen turns and covers about 2.5 miles. I having the following issues and would appreciate some help. I figure I’m just doing something wrong:
1: As I navigate the route the displays indicates I’m approaching a street that I’m supposed to turn on but it never tells me to actually turn. If I go ahead and turn it catches up and show the new street I’m on but then says approaching the next street but never shows to turn. It’s as if the GPS is running behind my actual location and then tries to catch up. Sometimes the GPS seems to just get lost and reverts to another part of the route.
2. When I display the actual directions either Mapsource or the GPS has inserted a u-turn that I didn’t intend. It’s like the GPS is trying to re-route me. Is there a way to edit out the u-turn and force the GPS to follow the route I created without trying to correct me?
3. When I select the GPS to display the actual turn direction it alternates between the map view and the turn list. Is that normal or is there a way to make it stay on the turn list?
  • Further info on problem

I do have the same map (City Nav N. Amer. 2012) on the computer as on the 60 CSX and I have "recalculate" turned "off". The route is displayed on the GPS the same as in Mapsource and the turn by turn directions are correct except that the GPS inserted 3 u-turns that are not included in the directions in Mapsource.

A word about how I created the route might be in order. Rather than using a start and end waypoint and then adjusting the route I simply used the route tool beginning at my home address waypoint and dragging the rubber band line to each intersection where a turn occurred and clicking the left button. Then I repeated that process until I returned to my home waypoint. Could this be part of my problem?
