Importing RTE files

Former Member
Former Member
Last year, I created route files, e.g., langdale.RTE with Fugawi software and uploaded them to my eTrex Venture HCx. This year, I have an eTrex 30 and would like to import some of last year's routes. Garmin BaseCamp does not seem to support RTE files.

I do not know the file extension that BaseCamp uses, so I cannot find the routes I have created with BaseCamp. I do not know where BaseCamp stores it's files. So, my troubleshooting activities have stopped.

Any suggestions other than "create new routes"?

Try using GPSBabel to convert the RTE to a GDB or GPX file then import that into BaseCamp

    Solved

    Stuart,
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried GPSBabel without success.
Then, I took a closer look at the Fugawi application and discovered that I could save routes in gpx format.

...and discovered that I could save routes in gpx format.

GPX has become very popular very quickly so almost all GPS software supports it nowadays. GPX files are also human-readable (text).
