How do I upgrade my GPS software?

My GPSMAP 62sc is running version 2.80 and I want to upgrade it to beta version 3.90. I downloaded the gcd file from http://garmingpsmap.wikispaces.com/Versions and, as directed, renamed the file gupdate.gcd and uploaded it to my GPS (D:\Garmin\gupdate.gcd). I restarted my GPS. Nothing seemed to have changed. I restarted the unit and pressed ENTER to toggle the info screen. The version number has not changed and states I'm still running 2.80. What gives?

I really like the GPSMAP 62sc, but the software is buggy (unable to delete custom profiles and unable to remember profile settings) and nowhere near as refined as an Oregon 450 I borrowed from a friend. Should I just toss the 62 and order an Oregon?
