Member communication with Garmin Connect?

I am new to Connect Garmin. I am able to see multiple people's shared runs on the map of my area. Basically I'd like to know if I am able to communicate with them in order to perhaps plan a run in my area.

I think you can send private messages to people. Nobody has sent me one yet though :)

Yes, there is a PM feature. However, I'm not sure if Garmin Connect has really been used as a social networking site. There's certainly nothing against it, but I'd personally be a little surprised to get a PM asking me to go for a run.
