Remove bicycle routes from default Google Map

While I am certainly in favor of using Google Maps over other options, when Garmin finally switched back to Google Maps they made it so that the Bicycle Routes layer comes on by default, with no personal setting to keep it off. I am currently running, and not cycling at all, and find that the Bicycle Routes really clutter the map and I end up turning it off every time I bring a map up.

Please either don't have this layer turned on by default (we're not all cyclists), or provide an option in our settings to turn if off.
Thanks.

Over 2 years later and no action on this simple request. It's very frustration to see such a simple request simply ignored. I'm a web map developer and happen to know that this would take all of 5 minutes to not make the bike layer the default. Come on Garmin.
  • Does anyone from the Garmin team have a solution? Its only a parameter to remove from the default call to the Google Map service!

In other words, its pretty easy and I believe it would make few people very happy :)

    Agree, the 'Bicycle' layer:

    1) should not be on by default,
    2) is completely ugly and worse depending on your location,
    3) not applicable to Activities marked as a Run,
    4) is inaccurate and adds clutter.
    5) annoying to have to turn off EVERY TIME I look at an event - making me not even want to use Garmin Connect

As a software engineer I too understand this is an easy issue to resolve.

    Everyone,

Please respond to this thread to voice your opposition to Garmin having the Google Map 'Bicycle' layer on by default for Run Activities (or have it user configurable).

Also, please submit a Garmin Support ticket here by selecting; Web Applications -> Garmin Connect -> Garmin Connect Usage:
    https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/escalateForm.htm

See this attached image for how ugly and not useful the Google map 'Bicycle' layer is for a Run:
  • <GRIN> If Garmin does this, will you runners will stay off my bike route? <grin>
  • Garmin, pls un-default bicycle roads, it's annoying
  • It's time to get this done. GARMIN ARE YOU LISTENING!? Pleeaaase, it's be a great Christmas gift to all.
  • Garmin, pls un-default bicycle roads, it's annoying

Please make this a configurable item.

This thread deserves a bump. It's very frustrating to have to uncheck the bicycle routes EVERY time you want to see a map. The map is way too cluttered with that option switched on by default.

Edit: Maybe it's my slight red/green color deficiency, but this is how a recent run of mine looks like with the bicycle layer turned on and I think it's quite useless.
