After hiking a series of trails, I saved the track in my Oregon 450. However, when I uploaded it to Garmin Connect, the track included a straight line from the park to my house, 60 miles away. How do I eliminate that 60 mile tail so that I can use the hiking track by itself?
Export the ride from GC as gpx.
Open the file with MapSource.
Click the "Tracks" tab.
Double click the track name.
In the new window showing "Track Properties" down on the left check the box for "Center map on selected items".
Scroll down to the very last trackpoint just above <end>.
Click it one time.
A point (at your house) should be highlited along with the 60 mile straight line back to your hike.
It could also be the very first point. The highlite will tell you.
Click delete and the 60 miles should disappear leaving just your hike.
Save as gpx with adj or rev added to the original name.
Do a manual upload back into GC.
Thanks! Now I can get rid of those pesky tails that are at the beginning or end of my hikes. I need to remember to clear the track immediately before we start the hike, and save and clear the track immediately at the end, but I often don't...
