workouts - Heart Rate Zone. % Max HR values not available?

Hi,

I used to create custom workouts in Garmin Training Center and use % Max Heart Rate as a target. I would create a custom zone, say "75% - 85%", and the watch would tell me if I strayed from that zone.

However, I have just moved over to Garmin Connect and there is no functionality to allow percentage based targets. And it seems that when you transfer over a workout designed in GTC, these zones do not work.

I do my exercise based on percentages as they are easy to determine my body's effort level. 70% = I am working at a 7 out of 10 effort level. A BPM value is much more arbitrary and doesn't immediately mean anything to me, plus it's hard to know where you are effort wise on a scale. Indeed, a lot of exercise routines are set up to specify how hard you should be working as a percentage of max heart rate. So it makes sense that Garmin Connect should allow percentage based targets.

Can anyone answer why this is? Why has this basic and useful functionality been removed from Garmin Connect? I'd like to see it reinstated.

Thanks
Coley

It does. In GC click on settings next to the login button at the top of the screen and select Training Zones. You can then transfer the settings to your Edge.

    Hi Tony.

No, I am talking about creating a custom workout, not standard heart rate zones.

When creating a custom workout in Garmin Connect I can only seem to set a heart rate target in BPM. I am asking why can I not set it in percentage? This used to be possible in Garmin Training Center, but not anymore. I don't understand.

Other areas of the watches I have tested (FR910XT & FR610) function in percentage terms, so why not here too?

Any ideas anyone? Or if anyone at Garmin care to reply?

    Thanks

First sorry for my English, is a translation of Google.

I think this is unfortunately a deficiency of the Garmin Forerunner 910 and Forerunner 610.
Before my Forerunner 610 I had a Forerunner 305 and always used this type of workout.
In my old Forerunner 305 I could add the custom workout directly on the FR305 with the goals in % Max Heart Rate.
In the current Forerunner 610, it does not accept this type of custom workout. Only in BPM and Zones. And if I put through the Garmin Training Center, it loads and shows the goal, but even showing the heart rate in %Max it doesn't work.
I would be very happy if Garmin added this function in its current waches, because here in Brazil almost all coachs use the % Max Heart Rate as goal.

OBS: I know the BPM conversion can be done, but besides being time consuming It doesn't give exact values.

    Márcio.
