I'm not sure if anyone else has had the same problem. I recently bought a Nuvi 1450 and it seemed to work fine. Yesterday, however, it developed a glitch. When I set it to navigate to a location (address, intersection, etc.) it doesn't "calculate" but immediately shows the route and begins providing directions. The directions work and the screen animates as normal. The problem is that the speedometer doesn't activate and remains frozen, once in a while jumping in speed and then freezing again. Also, the arrival time on the left side fails to engage. It will show the cardinal direction instead, even though that wasn't selected. If I touch it it shows the correct setting (arrival time) and then that part works. When I press the speedometer it works too until I go back to the map screen and then it is frozen again. Because the speedometer works fine when not using to get to a specific location I think the sensors and GPS are fine. It appears to be software/firmware related. I have the current software installed (5.80) and have tried a hard reset but that didn't work. Neither did reinstalling the software. I e-mailed Garmin but the last time I tried on a previous Nuvi 255W they never responded. Has anyone experienced this or have troubleshooting tips?
I had a similar problem first time I used my 1450T to navigate. Speedo and direction would update near a junction, but on a long stretch of the route they
didn't update.
Since then downloaded software update (now 5.80), and changed a few settings.
Second time I used to navigate - it updated speed and direction properly all along the route. Not sure what I did that fixed it (hope it stays fixed).
I changed the mapview to show more information (ie speed, ETA, elevation etc), then changed back to normal view
I changed the direction button to show elevation,then changed back to showing direction
This is in security settings. If safe mode is on, the OS disables
all functions that might distract the driver. Go to:
tools->settings->security (or something like that)
and switch safe mode off.
I now recall I did this as well. Then things might update continuously.
But I just updated to version 5.80 of the software hoping this fixes the issue. Also updated to map version 2012.40. Maybe together, this will address the problem. I'll let you know.
