Course creation problems

I use Firefox and Chrome on Mac and I am not able to create couses with Garmin Connect. Other online tools seem to be able to achieve this, like RunningAhead.com and Dailymile.com, and gmap-pedometer.com, but for me the course creation tool is useless. Please fix it.

Anyone else having this issue?

Here is a screen shot of a typical route creation session with "Stay on Roads" checked. Definitely not staying on the roads.

The only thing I can think of which may help is to update Safari or Chrome, and update Java and Flash, but this is only a guess as I am having a different problem with the course creator,
which to date I have not been able to solve. I am using a iMac os x 10.6.7. I can create a course, but the elevation data is always missing or corrupt in some way, using Safari 5.0.5 and Chrome, Java and Flash are the most recent.

I noticed that when a course is created using the Course Creator in Garmin Connect, there seems to be no elevation data in the saved course.
Also the downloaded course elevation data is not displayed on the Edge 800 and the Edge 500 elevation preview graph is not displayed correctly.
it's a shame because the course creator seems realy good, I enclose a screenshot of the Edge 500 elevation and the Garmin course with the missing elevation data
  • I am experiencing the same problem as the original poster. Behavior is the same in both firefox and Iexploder. Setting or clearing the "Stay on roads" is ineffective.

    Did anyone figure it out?

    Same problem - very frustrating
  • response from garmin

Before christmas i contacted garmin about this.
They suggested adding my.garmin.com, buy.garmin.com and connect.garmin.com to trusted sites. Also using compatability mode and installing the communicator plug-in. None of these fixed the issue.

Still waiting to hear back from them on the ticket but sounds like they have no idea how to fix it

Course creator is not working for me at all - continually loading maps. The explore feature is being pretty useless as well at the moment. Hope it gets fixed soon.

It does not matter what operating system you are using, it is not working. I have tried in all (IE, Safarie, Chrome, Firefox - all versions up to date). I am getting the exact same problems as the OP. I posted this a few weeks ago, hoping to get some fix. It is frustrating. I just have to import maps from other sites. So far that has worked, but it shouldn't be that difficult.

    Stay on roads not working

I am having the same problem. I have tried this on multiple browsers, computers, and operating systems. Here is the reply from Garmin, which did not help me.

I am sorry for the troubles. I tested the Course creation in IE 8,9,
Mozilla Firefox 8, 9 and Chrome with no problems. This page uses Java
Script extensively so make sure you don't have any extensions or plugins
installed that disable Java or Java Script. Some Internet Protections
software may disable this by default. Suspending the protections status
of those programs should allow the page to work properly. Please let us
know if you have any other questions.

I am running 10.7.2 on MacBook Pro. My stay on road feature was working until I disabled the Java settings in Safari. Reset the Java settings and the road feature still didn't work (straight line w/ mile markers). The zip code feature didn't work as well. Tried resetting Safari, clear cache, reboot, and it still did not work.

Decided to check for Apple updates and installed EFI (an automatic update). Reboot the Mac and still couldn't get the stay on road to work.

Kept the browser open to Garmin connect, disabled the Java settings again and refreshed the browser. This caused all Java features to stop working.

Kept the browser open and reset the Java settings in Safari and refreshed the browser. Used the Zip code and the map moved to the correct location, tried the Stay on Road and it's WORKING AGAIN!

Note: Tried/used the stay on road feature on friends computer without any issues. So it wasn't an account issue. It was/is definitely a Java issue in Safari.
