Custom waypoint symbols for Montana

Any plans to allow Montana units to use custom waypoint symbols?

I've been using them on my 76Csx for years and now feel like I've regressed after spending a lot of money on my Montana 650t.

I agree. I have tried to find a solution but still unsuccessfull. But there must be a reason for the folder Garmin\custom symbols.
    Still wondering.
Ximage is not able to find the Montana 650t.

I've been using them on my 76Csx for years and now feel like I've regressed after spending a lot of money on my Montana 650t.

Probably works just like an Oregon.

Note that the symbols must be 24-bit BMP's. Older units, such as the 76CSx used 8-bit.

    Additional (added) information.

Here's what I did with my 76CSx custom symbols. It supports 24 of them while my Oregon can take 56 (I don't know the limits for the Montana).

If you don't have a saved copy of your 76CSx custom symbols use Garmin's xImage program to extract/save them to a folder on your HD. You should have 24 files named 000.bmp through 023.bmp. If the Montana is like my Oregon you have to rename them to
"Custom 0.bmp" through "Custom 23.bmp".Note that there's no leading zero in the numbers in the filenames.

You then need to use an image editor (I used Windows Paint under Accessories in the Start Menu) to load/resave each one as a "24-bit Bitmap". You cannot use the files as is.

Once you're done put your Montana into mass-storage mode and copy the files to your device's

    \Garmin\CustomSymbols

    folder.

Again I have no idea if this will work on a Montana but it probably will.

BTW you might try just one file ( to save effort) at first to see if it works.

Thank you. I forgot to say that I have done as explained, because custom symbols are working fine on my Zumo 550. From the internet I download e.g. traffic symbols, modify them, and use them as described in my Zumo.

I'm not sure that the Zumo 550 supports custom waypoint/favorite symbols. Do you mean that or custom POI's? They're not the same thing.

Garmin has a FAQ database for this kind of thing.

Can I create custom waypoint symbols for my mass storage device?

Not all mass storage devices support custom waypoint symbols. If the device is up-to-date and the CustomSymbols directory does not exist, it is likely the device does not support this feature.

I understood that he means the same...

Ahhh. I've no idea what VONNATH meant. As far as I know no nuvi or Zumo model supports custom symbols. No idea why they don't. It'd be nice...
