Dead 530W

Fired up the plane, turned on the avionics master, and NOTHING on the 530W screen. Newer unit! The Nav head went into the start up mode, but nothing else happened! Any suggestions?

When you say the nav head went into start up mode do you mean
the CDI and or HSI? Do you have a Avionics shop near you?
Which nav head do you have? The 337 and or the weight & balance
    should have that info.

Let me know what you mean about start up mode and I may be able
to help guide you with more info.

The CDI went into start up mode, i.e. the vnav needle went full deflection up and the lnav needle went full deflection right. The needles stayed there, and the screen on the 530W remained black. The circuit breaker did not pop, so I'm sure the power supply was patent.

I could be mistaken but I thought the test deflection would only happen after
the Enter key was pressed once. Also the deflection should only be half
scale to the "Left" and half scale "Up".

What was the To / From indication? That should have been a "To"
    indication.

What did the lateral and vertical flags do? Did they pull out of view?

Can you have a Avionics shop open it up and look just to make sure no
internal connectors came loose? Most likely the connectors are secure
inside. While it's out apply power to it just to make sure you don't have a
power problem in the aircraft. I have seen circuit breakers fail.

You could try removing the Database Card(s) just to look for something
    simple.

If the shop has the cards used to update the software it might be worth
a try to see if the software could be reloaded.

But if the display is not coming on there is not much you will be able to do
and it will need to go back to Garmin.

Let us know what you find out, If it goes back to Garmin you should get a
report back as to what they found.
