I am on my second 3490LMT now. Both have had very bad traffic reception. I have updated the software and tried the traffic table reset to no avail. It is very slow to acquire signal even in a supposed strong signal area, and very quick to lose it. I upgraded to the 3490 from a nuvi 750 with msn direct. I never had any reception issues with it, but the service is going away at the end of the year. I expected at least the same performance from the top of the line product with "3D traffic" that I paid a premium for. But so far I have been nothing but disappointed. By the time it is able to detect any traffic I am already in it, and it is too late to avoid it.

The same me. But after disconnecting external entene it is much better :-) It is paradox, but it works.
Garmin is kind of in the state of denial on this issue. I even purchased a regular GTM 35 for my 3490LMT due to the weak HD signal in CT area. While it worked for a couple of days. The NAVTEQ FM signal got problems with multiple Garmin receivers as being reported here during the last week, by several users, including me. Basically, even the FM NAVTEQ signal was strong, there was no traffic update being sent through Garmin GPS through various GTM receivers.
However, there was some changes today, and my two receivers both starting got traffic information again. I will keep monitoring this issue this week.
