HRM not connecting to 405 forerunner

Hi,

After about 6 months my HRM has suddenly lost connection with the Forerunner 405. I changed the battery and reset the watch but it still can't detect the HRM. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks!

It could be the dry winter air that might be drying out the water on the strap. You might want to try putting some electrode gel like Buh-Bump on the strap.

The other option might just be a bad strap or transmitter.
  • I live in the tropics, so it's not winter air. ;)

Could it be rain? I think the last time I used the HRM I was caught in the rain and had to run about 200m to the nearest shelter.

Usually the 405s have enough water resistance to handle getting wet. If they get submerged under water, that's bad, but that doesn't sound like the case.

Does the watch itself still get a GPS signal, etc?

I had a similar problem the first time I changed the battery in my HRM. Someone told me that after you take out the old battery you should wait about a minute or so before putting in the new battery. I don't know the reason for this, but when I tried it my FR 405 started to detect the HRM again. Now whenever I have to change the battery I follow the same procedure and have had no problems.
  • The watch still gets a GPS signal, so I suspect the problem is with the HRM, not the watch.

I already tried waiting before putting in a new battery, and also tried the reverse polarity thing. Neither worked. Sigh...

Sounds like your ANT+ transmitter is no longer working. Can you still send it in for warranty repair?
  • after changing the battery, you might have to acquire the unit again, go to the ant+ settings on your watch and reacquire. Also make sure that you are wearing the monitor so that a signal gets sent.
